The children really enjoyed your visit. They were so excited to meet you. Some of my class have brought in books yesterday and today from home to read. I know you have really inspired them. Once again many thanks for coming into school. It was an amazing experience. Penygarn School, Pontypool
Just a short email to say thank you for yesterday from myself, Julie & Year 7. Another successful and productive lesson. I’m looking forwarding to seeing some of their imaginative stories. St Cenydd Community School, Caerphilly
Thank you so much for a truly wonderful day. The feedback I have had from my colleagues has all been absolutely glowing and the children haven’t stopped talking about what a fantastic time they had. They are all very enthusiastic about reading the book and finding out more about your characters. Blackheath Prep School, London
My children’s events are suitable for ages 7-12.
I am based in South Wales, but I’m willing to travel anywhere in the UK – or offer a ‘visit’ remotely.
If you’re a Welsh school, Literature Wales may be able to cover half the cost of a visit. See Literature Wales funding for details.
When I was a child I loved books but I didn’t know a career as an author was even possible. I will talk about how my dream of becoming a writer took shape, how my first book came about and what it’s like to work with a publisher. Along the way I’ll give lots of tips on developing story ideas, chat about favourite books and involve the audience in some improvised story-telling.
Suitable for children aged 6 and up.
Workshop: Heroes and Villains
Great stories start with great characters. Discover what every hero wants, what every villain hates, and invent your own nefarious plans for world domination in this interactive workshop.
I will talk the class through creating characters and show how stories evolve naturally out of characters. The children will work in groups to write and perform scripts with their own heroes and villains.
Workshop: Imaginary Worlds
Stories can happen anywhere. On a magical island, up a mountains, under the sea, in your own street. Learn how to create settings and bring them to life with vivid descriptions using all your senses. Younger children will enjoy designing their own maps and older groups will learn more about descriptive writing and developing story ideas from a setting.
For Adult Audiences
I also offer talks and creative writing workshops for adults. Contact me for details.
